Abstract

This study examines the effect of reading strategies based on online graphic organizers on the reading comprehension of 13 seventh-grade students in a public school in Armenia, Colombia. A teacher’s journal, a student survey, a peer observation form, and a diagnostic test revealed reading difficulties among the participants. Six workshops were conducted using strategies such as scanning, highlighting, note-taking, comparing and contrasting, previewing/prior knowledge, and sequencing in conjunction with graphic organizers to help participants improve reading skills such as recall of pertinent details, awareness of text structure and discourse organization, and evaluation and critical reading. In the implementation of the reading workshops, the same instruments were applied to collect data alongside a focus group, a final survey, and a final exit test
